Basics of Annulment
Are you unhappy with your marriage and are considering an annulment? If so, there are a few things you should know beforehand.
Although it is different for everyone, annulments are ideal options for those who have been in short marriages. In these situations spousal support or alimony may not be an option, or dissolution of property may not be favorable if a divorce were to take place. Depending on your state's laws regarding benefits, it is possible that benefits can still be conferred; however, they are more likely to take place for longer marriages. In that case, one spouse is more likely to have become dependent on the other during the duration of the marriage, making them more eligible for alimony.
Regardless of length of marriage, dissolution benefits are still highly probable, making them more highly sought after. If children are involved in your marriage, annulment is less likely to happen. It is up to a judge to decide whether you annulment is legal in your state, based upon the individual circumstances of your union.
