Child Sex Abuse Linked to Availability of Adult Content Online
Some experts believe that the increase in juvenile cases of sexual abuse has risen due to the increase of pornography online.
A report released by the FBI shows that pornography is highly influential in the actions of serial murders and sex offenders. In fact, 90% of child molesters have shown some sort of connection to pornography. Additional research conducted by Charles Keating of Citizens for Decency Through Law shows that 87% of child molesters of girls and 77% of child molesters of boys said that they attempted to recreate scenes that they had seen in pornography.
According to the U.S. Justice Department, 33% of girls and 14% of boys are molested before their 18th birthday. Of all sexual assaults that are reported, 2/3 of them involved minors and 1/3 involved sex with a child under the age of 12. Of course, these are only the reported cases, which are believed to make up just 35% of all actual abuse. Children are often frightened into keeping silent by their offenders.
