What is an Annulment?

An annulment is a legal action that is granted to a couple that declares their marriage invalid or not legally binding. It can be difficult to get an annulment, no matter what state you live in, but there are some ways in which it is possible. For example, if you reside in the state of California, you could qualify if: the relationship was found to be incestuous, if bigamy was involved, if one or both spouses were underage, someone was coerced into the marriage, evidence of fraud, or mental or physical incapacity.

If you think that any of the above circumstances apply to your own, you could make an application for annulment. However, you must check within your own state to see if there are time limits in which you must file. In California, you must file within four years from the date of your marriage.

Are you unsure as to whether you qualify for an annulment? Contact our legal team to discuss your concerns with a Riverside family lawyer.
