Police Close in on Child Abduction Case

One woman took her child custody battle to the extreme in 1995 by abducting her own daughter and giving her a different name.

Now that authorities have caught up with the woman and young girl, they do not want to let them out of their sight. However, the woman missed her first scheduled court appearance in years, prompting law enforcement officials to believe that she had skipped town once again.

Yet, her attorney quickly came to her defense, stating that her missed court appearance was an honest mistake. Since disappearing with her daughter 15 years ago, the woman has racked up a list of charges, including two felony counts of deprivation of child custody.

The local police and FBI were finally able to track down the duo in March 2010, after a tip led them to the mother-daughter team in southern California. It took the police years to capture the mother, who reportedly moved her daughter from state to state in order to elude detection by local and federal officials.
