State Taking Measures to Improve Gay Adoption Rights
One state is taking steps towards allowing gay parents to adopt children, which has long been a difficult process for many.
The Review Board for the state announced its decision to give an extra month for public comments to be entered regarding gay adoption rights. Advocates for gay rights have been fighting to include more protection in adoption laws against discrimination when it comes to gay parents wanting to adopt children in the state. Once the additional month has come to an end, the board must decide to approve or deny the amendments.
Reports indicate that it isn't the government that is protesting changes in the language of state adoption laws, but rather adoption agencies. An earlier draft of the bill included language that may have led to discrimination based on gender, disability and family status. Such language was removed when the agencies began to protest.
