Singer John Mellencamp Files Divorce Papers

Just two weeks after they announced their split John Mellencamp filed for divorce from wife Elaine Irwin Mellencamp. The papers were filed last Friday in Brown County, Indiana. 

According to a lawyer that spoke with People Magazine Brown County is "a good place to file because this is very quiet and out of the way." 

Although news of their split went public on New Year's Eve, it was still unsure as to whether papers had been filed to end their 18-year marriage. While they are not discussing the details of their divorce just yet the singer has reportedly been seeing actress Meg Ryan on the side for nearly two months. This will be Mellencamp's third divorce.
