Rural Area Divorces Increasing
According to a recent study conducted by the New York Times, divorce rates are changing to meet the times.
Forty years ago the phenomenon of divorce was mostly limited to suburbs and cities; now rural areas are nearly on par with their more populated counterparts.
The paper believes that two major factors contribute to to this change: the concepts of divorce and women in the workforce becoming more accepted in rural America, and a "mismatch between expectation and reality" as one professor put it. Class also contributes to the rate of divorce, with college-educated couples being more likely to stick together than those with a high school education only.
Finally, having children out of wedlock is becoming more common across the country. In fact, one in three babies are born out of wedlock these days.
