Improved Economy Means More Divorces

If the divorce rate is any indicator, the U.S. economy is on the rise again.

According to Linda Lea Viken, president of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers: "People were afraid they were going to lose their jobs so they were very cautious about getting a divorce because you have to split your assets."  While the divorce rate plummeted during 2008 and 2009, the following years have seen a rise again in divorce filings.

This shouldn't be any surprise since America has the highest divorce rate in the world - 4.95 divorces out of every 1000 inhabitants. While the divorce rate plummeted due to the poor economy, so too did marriages and child births. In fact, a poll conducted by Pew Research showed that nearly 15 percent of adults under 35 years old delayed getting married during the recession.
