Man Awarded $6.1 Million in Child Custody Case

In an unusual turn of events, a man in Tennessee was awarded $6.1 million, to be paid out by his ex-wife for a child custody case gone terrible awry.

Although Christopher Savoie may never actually receive the money for his two children, there is a legal mandate out now against his ex-wife, Noriko Esai Savoie. After hearing his child custody case, in which Savoie explained how Noriko took his two children - Isaac, 10, and Rebecca, 8 - to Japan and never returned, the judge ruled in his favor. Savoie now has full custody of the children, as well as a warrant out for Noriko's arrest.

However, since Japan has yet to sign an international treaty in relation to child abduction, these legal orders have no international meaning for the case. Savoie has attempted several times to get his children back, even going so far as to visit Japan to do so, but to no avail.
