More People are Choosing to Remain Unmarried

According to the Survey of Income and Program Participation, more people than ever remain unmarried.

A whopping thirty percent of people have never been married. The data, taken from the U.S. Census, showed that two factors are largely to blame for this shifting pattern: couples who are getting married at a later age, and those who remain unmarried but live together.  Those aged 25-29 who are unmarried increased from 27% in 1986 to 47% in 2009.

The sample for this group was based on 39,000 households across the country, from men and women above the age of 15. Of this group in 2009, 55,947 had never been married. Of those that were married, 55% had been married for 15 years while just 35% had met or exceeded their 25th anniversary. These numbers reflect just a 1 to 2 point variation from 1996; experts believe the stabilization is due to an increase in life expectancy and divorce rates leveling off.

If you're on the verge of divorce, it is a wise idea to consult with a Riverside divorce attorney.  Take the time to contact our law office!
