Mother with Cancer Fights for Child Custody

As one mother is fighting against cancer, she is also frequently in court trying to get her children back.

Alaina Giordano, a stage-4 breast cancer victim, recently lost custody of her two children. When Giordano went before a judge in Durham this month, he ordered the two children to live with their father in Chicago. The story, which has now gone national, has helped Giordano to gather massive support - and money - from nearly 19,000 strangers online. She is now filing an appeal to stop the child custody ruling of the previous judge. In total, $7,000 has been raised for the appeals process.

In a recent statement, Giordano expressed her newly regained hope: "They're going to win this appeal and my kids are going to stay in Durham in their home with me, their primary caregiver their entire lives and continue to live a full and happy life here in Durham."
