Divorce Linked to Hair Loss
Doctors have long known that stress can lead to mild hair loss. New research now confirms this, especially for women who have experienced divorce and/or other marital woes.
After removing genetics from the equation, researchers in a new study discovered that women who had either been divorced or lost their spouse were more likely to start losing their hair when compared to single or married women. Other factors that were found to be significant contributors to early hair loss were high amounts of smoking and/or drinking.
Men were also found to be affected by drinking and smoking in relation to hair loss, but were more affected by factors other than divorce when compared to their female counterparts. If men had a history of cancer, high exposure to the sun or lived a more sedentary lifestyle, the research showed that hair loss was more likely.
