Man Faces 4 Years for Failure to Pay

State governments across the country are cracking down on parents that fail to make child support payments, especially when they owe tens of thousands of dollars.

Such is the case of a 38-year-old man who owes $17,209 for one of his children. Court records show that he failed to make any payments from 2008 to 2011. While he has already been before a judge once, he is expected to appear again next month to answer for a single count of failure to pay child support. This is considered to be a felony in the state, which could lead to a four-year sentence in jail if the man is convicted.

The state Attorney General's office had been trying to notify the man for six weeks about his missed payments to no avail. Finally, they were forced to file the lawsuit against him as well as the criminal negligence charges.

If you are having a tough time making your child support payments, contact a Riverside child support lawyer who can get involved immediately as failure to pay can lead to harsh legal penalties in the state of California.
