Nevada Has Highest Rate of Domestic Violence Murders
A recent statistic about Nevada is not one that the tourist bureau will be using to promote the state anytime soon.
Based on statistics gathered by a national agency, Nevada allegedly has the highest rate of domestic violence murders committed by men against women. In 2009, there were 2.7 domestic violence homicides per 100,000 people. Arizona was a close second with 2.64 per 100,000 state residents. This research was released by a non-profit group dedicated to causes such as prevention of domestic violence.
The results of the survey have already come under fire from one professor in Nevada. He argues that since Nevada draws a higher tourist base than other states, the base population is actually higher than is reported on census data. The professor went on to say that the study should examine smaller states like South Dakota, which ranked eighth on the list, more closely.
