| Director Steven Soderberg Admits Paternity |
| Posted By Law Office of Michael Young |
 |
Famed director Steven Soderberg has been shamed into revealing that he is indeed the father to a baby girl in Australia after a brief tryst down under.
The mother of the child, Frances Lawrencina, brought this news to the public when she made a child support claim against the director after proving the paternity of their daughter, Pearl Button. In the papers filed for
child support she said that they "had intercourse on many occasions" including the period when he was directing "Tot Mom" at the Sydney Theater Company.
At this time Anderson is seeking a formal declaration of paternity, as well as child support, for the daughter that she claims is Soderbergh's. According to Bernard Clair, Soderbergh's lawyer, his client was completely shocked by the allegations as he is still married to wife Jules Asner. However, at the time of the supposed coupling, Soderbergh was separated from Asner and has indeed recognized that he is the father of the child.

| LeCharles Bentley to Have Child Support Re-Evaluated |
| Posted By Law Office of Michael Young |
 |
LeCharles Bentley, former Browns center, is having his child support re-evaluated by the Ninth District Court of Appeals this week. Although the case began in Lorain County Commons Pleas Court in 2008, the Ninth District Court has ruled against him in the case of child support payments for his three children.
The former center, whose career was ended after a serious staph infection debilitated him, had been ordered to pay $44,000 a year in child support payments based on calculations involving his annual income. His lawyers argued that Bentley actually only made $145,035.96 for child support services, meaning that the court had made an error in their calculations.
While the appellate court did not agree with Bentley's legal team that the original court had abused its discretion, it did find the courts calculations questionable when it included certain portions of money as income questionable. One amount, $30,000 per year, would come from a $300,000 annuity from which ten percent would be drawn each year.

| Lil Wayne Asked to Submit to Paternity Test |
| Posted By Law Office of Michael Young |
 |
Rapper Lil Wayne is yet another celebrity facing a paternity test. Although, this time it could be true. The young star is already the father of four children to three different women (the mother of his second child has not been revealed to the press). This time a woman in Louisiana is claiming that her grandson is actually Lil Wayne's and she is demanding a paternity test.
Supposedly the family in question has been attempting to get a test from Lil Wayne since 2002. However, due to a delay in the court system and then the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina, all court records were destroyed and any hopes for a test were delayed. When the case did appear again in court the rapper was in jail so he did not have to take the DNA test.
Now that he is a free man Lil Wayne has just a few more weeks until the court has demanded that he submit to a paternity test.

| Woman Told to Submit to DNA Testing after her Soldier Boyfriend Dies |
| Posted By Law Office of Michael Young |
 |
News sources report that a pregnant woman was told that she must take a paternity test in order to prove that her deceased boyfriend is in fact the father of her baby. If the woman does not submit to DNA testing, she will not be entitled to her deceased boyfriend's military pension.
According to The South Yorkshire Star, Tiffant Lound is still grieving the devastating loss of her childhood sweetheart, trooper James Leverett. Love or it was a member of the Royal Dragoon Guards and was 20 years of age when his Viking vehicle was hit by a Taliban IED in Helmand province. Just weeks after his death, his pregnant girlfriend has been told that she needs to take a paternity test to prove that he is the father of her child.
Tiffany commented that James, "never stopped talking about the baby. I thought he would automatically be named as the father. But because we weren't married before he died, his name can't go on the birth certificate because he's not here to sign it."
She also said that she was disturbed by the news and would not hesitate to take the DNA test or do whatever she could for her child.

| Homeless Man Ordered to Pay Child Support |
| Posted By Law Office of Michael Young |
 |
In Los Angeles, an attorney with the National Coalition For Men (NCFM) reported that on July 28th, the California Supreme Court declined to review a Court of Appeal decision which forced a homeless man by the name of Hari Wilburn to pay tens of thousands of dollars in child support. Even though DNA testing excludes Wilburn as being the father of the child and he never acted as the father, the motion was declined.
On August 17th, a probate court in San Diego will hear the mother's request to intercept Wilburn's inheritance, which he received from his deceased mother. The mother wants the money to fulfill Wilbur's child support order.
Wilburn received representation from the NCFM, which is a non-profit organization that addresses how sex discrimination affects both men and boys. In 2005, the NCFM helped chance California law in order to protect men from dales paternity claims.

| Gang Member Requests Paternity Test |
| Posted By Law Office of Michael R. Young |
 |
Here’s an interesting paternity case of out Illinois:
An alleged gang member wants to take a paternity test to determine if he is the father of the child of a woman who is currently in prison on cocaine related charges. He is now asking the La Salle County Court to order the test.
The Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services filed court papers on behalf of Timothy M. Schmitt, a known member of the Almighty Latin Kings Nation street gang. Schmitt is trying to determine whether the child born to Ashley C. Arwood is his child.
Both Schmitt and Arwood have been in jail for selling and dealing cocaine. Arwood was actually released from prison in 2009, but prosecutors are trying to put her back behind bars after she was caught dealing cocaine again, which is a not only a crime in and of itself but also a violation of her probation.
If the paternity test proves Schmitt is the father, he will be responsible for paying
child support.
Like the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services, the child support agencies in California take child support enforcement very seriously. If you being asked to support a child you do not believe is yours, a
Riverside family law attorney at the Law Office of Michael R. young can help you request a DNA test. Similarly, if you are a woman and you think a certain man is the father of you child, we can assist you in asking to the court to order that man to take a DNA test. DNA testing is the most accurate way of determining
paternity, and is often the only way to get a judge to force someone to pay child support.

| Beyoncé’s Father Ordered to Pay Child Support to Mistress |
| Posted By Law Office of Michael R. Young |
 |
There’s been a development in the paternity case involving superstar Beyoncé’s father. Last week we blogged about how Matthew Knowles’ alleged mistress asked him to take a DNA test, which he agreed to do. This week a judge ordered Knowles to begin paying the woman, Alexsandra Wright, $8,200 a month in child support, retroactive to February 1
st. Knowles must also pay 100% of Wright’s uninsured medical bills. The total for January was $20,750.
The judge’s decision comes despite the fact that Knowles was scheduled to take a DNA test on March 1. If the test proves Knowles is the father, long-term child support arrangements will need to be made.
Many people are speculating the judge’s decision is a sign that Knowles is indeed the father of the child, a boy named Nixon. What’s also interesting is that Knowles gave Wright $10,000 in January for medical expenses and other baby related costs.
Is Knowles the father? Nothing is certian, but it seems to appear that way.

| Beyoncé’s Father Asked to Take Paternity Test |
| Posted By Law Office of Michael R. Young |
 |
Matthew Knowles, the father of Grammy-winning superstar
Beyoncé,
is at the center of a
paternity dispute after a woman stepped forward claiming he is the father of her newborn son.
Alexsandra Wright is claiming she got pregnant during her 18-month affair with Knowles, and that he is the father of the baby boy she gave birth to last week. Wright is now asking Knowles to submit to a paternity test. And while Knowles is denying his parentage of the boy, he said he would certainly take a DAN test to put the question to rest.
A court date has been scheduled, although the exact date has not been released. If the DNA test indicates Knowles is the boy’s father, Wright plans to ask for child support. For now, Knowles refuses to pay any support because he does not believe the child is his.
Knowles was recently in the headlines after his wife Tina, Beyoncé’s mother, filed for divorce after 29 years of marriage.

| Case Sheds Light on Major Paternity Issue |
| Posted By Katie Neimand |
 |
A case out of Pennsylvania is shedding light on a major issue involving paternity and a man’s responsibility to pay child support.
The case centers around Mike. When Mike’s daughter was 2-years-old he found out his wife was having an affair with another man. Mike’s wife promised to end the affair, but two years later, Mike learned his wife was still involved in the affair. He then demanded a paternity test.
The paternity test concluded that there was a zero percent chance Mike was the biological father. Mike later filed for divorce and his now ex-wife remarried. She then sued Mike for child support, even though a DNA test proved he was not the father.
Although this may seem a like an open-and-shut case—Mike is not the father and therefore should not be required to pay child support for a child that isn’t his—the court ruled that under state law Mike is the father of the child and that he is responsible for paying support.
The law states that when a child is born into an intact marriage, the husband in the marriage is presumed to be the father. So even though the man Mike’s wife remarried is the biological father of the child, the law considers Mike the child’s father.
This law was obviously established before DNA testing, and the judge maintained that he could not take the DNA test results into consideration as evidence.
In fact, according to an article on www.kdka.com, the judge said, “All may know the truth that the science says, but the courts are required to blind themselves to the truth.”
Although Mike is not the biological child of the father, the attorney for Mike’s ex-wife claims Mike is the child’s father in every sense of the world. He has a room set up for his daughter in his house, has regular visitation, and other parental rights, such as a voice in her health care, education, and religion. For those reasons, the attorney for the ex-wife argued that Mike is the father and should be held responsible for paying child support.
Mike says he doesn’t mind paying child support, and that he wants to maintain a relationship with his daughter, however, he doesn’t think the state should force him to pay child support.
While Mike may not mind supporting his daughter financially, there are countless other men throughout the country in similar situations who don’t share the same sentiment. What about those men who aren’t as actively involved in the child’s life? Should they have to pay child support?

| Establishing Paternity |
| Posted By Law Office of Michael R. Young |
 |
When a child is born into a marriage it is presumed the husband is the father, and it is not necessary to sign a Declaration of Paternity. However, registered domestic partners and unmarried couples need to sign a Declaration of Paternity indicating who the father of the child is.
When the parentage of a child is questionable, both the mother and the presumed father can request a paternity test. When a woman requests a paternity test, it is usually because she needs child support, and needs to establish which man is responsible for supporting the child. Sometimes the woman doesn’t want money, but just wants the peace of mind knowing who the father of her child is.
Men seek paternity tests for similar reasons. In some cases, a man may want to be involved in the child’s life, but the mother won’t give him custody or visitation time unless he can prove he is the father. In other cases, a man may wish to establish paternity so he can get out of paying child support. If a paternity test indicates the man is not the father, he is not legally obligated to continue paying child support to the mother.
